Abstract

The Sumatera Utara poverty rate slightly decreased from 9.28 percent in September 2017 to 9.22 percent in March 2018. This figure is equivalent to the number of poor people in the range of 1,324.98 thousand in March 2018, or only decreased by about 1 , 6 thousand in the last semester, from 1,326,57 thousand in September 2017.

The percentage of poor people in urban areas in March 2018 was 9.15 percent, slightly increased compared to September 2017 which was 8.96 percent. While the poor in rural areas, down from 9.62 percent in September 2017 to 9.30 percent in March 2018.

· In March 2018, the Sumatera Utara poverty line totaled Rp.435,970 per capita per month. For urban areas, the poverty line of Rp.448.363, - while for rural areas of Rp.421.586, - per capita per month.

· In the period September 2017 - March 2018, Poverty Depth Index (P1) and Poverty Severity Index (P2) showed an increasing trend. P1 rose from 1.499 in September 2017 to 1.562 in March 2018, and P2 rose from 0.366 in September 2017 to 0.407 in March 2018. This indicates that the average spending of the poor tends to move away from the poverty line and the level of disparities in the expenditure of the poor is increasing.
