EXPORT

The export value through loading ports in the Sumatera Utara region in
January 2019 has increased compared to December 2018, namely from US $
662.74 million to US $ 682.28 million or an increase of 2.95 percent.
When compared with January 2018, Sumatera Utara exports decreased by
1.15 percent.
•
The largest increase in Sumatera Utara export value in January 2019
against December 2018 occurred in various chemical products (HS 38) of
US $ 14.66 million (21.45%) followed by rubber and rubber goods (HS 40)
and animal fats and oils / vegetable (HS 15) amounting to US $ 7.26
million (9.19%) and US $ 6.38 million (2.38%) Whereas the largest
decline occurred in the coffee, tea, spices (HS 09) group of US $ 2 , 26
million (-5.17%).

Exports to the United States in January 2019 were the largest, namely
US $ 97.51 million, followed by China with US $ 61.99 million, and India
with US $ 59.07 million, with the contribution of the three reaching
32.03 percent.

According to the group of export destination countries in January 2019,
exports to the Asian region (outside ASEAN) are the largest with a
value of US $ 210.47 million (30.85 percent).
IMPORT
•
The import value through Sumatera Utara in January 2019 on the basis of
CIF (cost, insurance & freight) amounted to US $ 457.69 million, or
decreased by 1.54 percent compared to December 2018 which reached US $
464.82 million. When compared with the same month in the previous year,
the value of imports decreased by 2.00 percent.

Import value in January 2019 compared to December 2018, capital goods
fell by 50.96 percent, consumer goods fell by 38.26 percent and raw /
auxiliary materials rose by 17.08 percent.

In January 2019, the class of goods experiencing the largest increase
in import value was inorganic chemicals (HS 28) of US $ 25.84 million
(125.55%), followed by pulp / leftovers from the food industry (HS 85)
of US $ 21.27 million (119.38%) while the class of goods experiencing
the largest decline in import value were machinery / mechanical aircraft
(HS 84) of US $ 47.77 (-44.81%) followed by electric machinery /
equipment (HS 27) of US $ 11 , 79 million (-23.08%).

The January 2019 import value from China was the largest, namely US $
137.06 million, with a role of 29.95 percent of Sumatera Utara total
imports, followed by Australia at US $ 49.67 million (10.85%), and
Malaysia at US $ 33 , 92 million (7.41%).
